When I first began the felt workshop we started working in monotone so we concentrated on experimenting with texture. I liked this photo I took at Manchester Museum of a fossil plant in a coal sample, I wanted to try and copy the shapes in my felt. I also experimented with different thickness's, thin parts on the grey part of my piece and thick lumps on the white patches. I also included cotton threads that I carded in with the white wool, these moved while in the felting process and created interesting marks in my felt piece.
I then wanted to include more threads to create more texture, I used different cotton threads to see how they would all react to the felting process.
